my pay cheque doesn't look good maybe its because i'm a clerical officer with the hse but i'm also a councillor as i listen to people every day on the phone some crying for medical cards i dont get extra pay for this only pay cuts. But i come home so satisfied that i have listened and maybe made someone happy. I wish brian cowan would come and take a look at the work we do but i suppose he is too busy sorting out the banks. My bank account is quiet easy to sort out cause i live from month to month.

I want to see brain cowen resign ..and step down ..and call a election now.

Was any reps from Fine Gael asked 2 come on the programme 2night. If not, why not. They are the biggest opposition party.

***

A follow up point to my previous txt is the question Are politically appointed advisers a step towards re establishment of political patronage in public service jobs which the permanent, pensionable status of public servants was designed to obviate ?

In a future time headlines might read archaeologists in boglands in ireland have found whole towns villages roads and theres a big debate among them on latest findings of some sort of government department buildings this is a large deserted area. Natives on the east coast say they heard old folklore tales of this and that a group or sect called. Pee.dees once ruled there. Chineese archeoligists weather permiting hope to return there in the future.

Get one of sinn fein on tomorrow.

Dont forget charlie mccrevy was also opposed to hedge fund regulation in europe. And he now appointed director of ryan air. No regulation there either.

***

Brian cowen talks of hindsight. He is paid to have foresight. Even a layperson like myself knew the whole system was unsustainable.

***

Fianna fail dont care. B.cowan could + should have let anglo go under, he didnt. He, bertie, charlie + brian lenihan should be held 2 account.

***

Vincent, Please, I beg you, don't make this a Cowen bashing exercise only. This began with Patrick Bartholomew Ahern(Bertie).Surely a cabinet is a team, and the team captain while this built up over the years was Ahern. We must start there.  They are all sub standard(Ahern,Cowen,Lenihan). Thats the nicest word I can use. Time will tell that Lenihan's decisions will prove to be wrong too. There is an in-built lack of confidence and foolishness in their decisions over the years and it continues, they are not thinking with the people of the country in mind first, and when that is your starting point it's doomed to failure in the long term.  It's the system for the systems sake, meanwhile unemployment rises etc. Thanks

Brian

Vincent Watched last night and you stated that the CB governor will be a guest tonight

today he has criticised bank boards for their failure in the bank crisis

What about the Central Bank's own board, did any resign and what oversight did they have of the operations of the Central Bank and Regulator?

Anne D 22

***

Your email isn't working. Anyway, please don't forget it was bertie who was in overall charge. Both he and cowen are at faultWhen Charlie Mc Creevy and Brian Cowen announced their budgets each year, the oppoistion FG and Labour shouted 'give us more, you scoorage' so all politicans are like bananas green to start with, and they all end yellow and bent.

republican sinn fein should be in charge instead of the criminals in lienster house and stormont.

***

If Brian Cowan as minister of finance did not know what was happening in the banks he was guilty of reckless negligence If he did know he was guilty of colluding in corrupt practices Either way he should have the dignity to resign but of course he wont because in this country no matter the scandal nobody in power has any sense of honour To say that nobody is to blame is another typically Irish cop out.

***

in light of these 2 reports ALL CURRENT DIRECTORS OF AIB BOI ANGLO NWIDE EBS both EXECUTIVE AND NON EXECUTIVE WHO WERE IN OFFICE AT ANY TIME DURING THE YEARS 2004 to date MUST BE "forced" to resign in an orderly manner over the next 6 months - collective responsibity is a FUNDAMENTAL TENET of BOARD ACCOUNTABILITY -why are our so called "professors" of CORPORATE GOVERNANCE DITHERING IN EXPLAINING THIS BASIC CONCEPT !

Mark ( Wicklow )

***

Is this man for real all the cut backs and talk about pay is being put on the people who are paying their taxes and are now we have to listen to reasons why its our fault about banks and the people who were running the country i bet he is not 8euro an hour or trying to live on 196 euro and 20cents a week i would really like to see him give it a try and we are sick to the neck listening about other countries this is ireland 2010 not 1906 we do have more of an education time to wake up and treat us with some respect and stop making up stories.

***

We dont need a bank enquiry to know what went on what does patrick honahan mean when he says the heads banks suffered thats complete garbage they all walked away with huge payoffs we like tribunals queries enquires comitees.

***

Almost as smooth as Paul Kenny's pension. Almost!

***

Imf stay everything was allright in 2006 is this same imf that brian lenihan keep's telleng us that the government is right now something wrong there it think.

***

Cowen has finally been found out and now he is trying to exclude himself from further scrutiny. If the greens agree to this and let him off the hook they will be seen as corrupt as ff. Political corruption and corporate greed has brought this country to the edge of ruin thanks to ff and their developer and banking pals.

***

This banking fiasco is a prime r maybe ( subprime ) example of the blind leading the blind pat in tipp

***

Why hasn't Brian Cowen resigned? As for his response today - had he remained silent and allowed people think him stupid, he'd have been better off than to speak and remove all doubt. This FF / Crazy Gang coalition have no credibility.

***

Brand new roads with no roadside services, not even a portaloo! So much for safety.

***

If nobody is held accountable for this mess ,i.e no political resignations,no bankers jailed,no developers really bankrupted-then can you convince me why i should pay taxes and follow the laws of the land, while these gangsters get off scott free.

Tom, When r u going to hire some competent sound engineers? This is the 2nd OB with crap audio. Tom Dickinson D5

Has the document named and shamed the golden circle who i feel acted shamfuly and could we c any legly action taken against them

***

Vindication at last from objective source, although reiterated by vincent all these years. Kate Bell, Ballymote, co sligo

***

I would have my doubts about mr honohan regulating any bank after seeing tonights interview.almost apologetic for banks disgraceful behaviour.a new governor needed, part of yesterdays failed banking system.

***

Honohan avoids one thing : the personal responsibilty as set out in law of the gouernor john hurley for financial stabilty - not the financial regulator not the central bank as a whole but his precessor was personally and individually responrible in law for financial stability and had all the power he needed in law to direct the financial regulator to act : wonder why honohan does not crticise his fellow governor?

Vincent that man seems 2 B wearing 2 hats, neither ornamental or useful.

***

Patrick Honahan shows the same deference to Brian Cowen as he criticises in others. Pathetic. Brian Hopkins, Harold's Cross.

***

given todays banking reports surely its time cowen stepped down. he's totally lacking credibilty as he lead our country head first into the property bubble & the crash afterwards.

***

The Lehman Bros did not get a mention ! Its time that the Fine Failures <F F > did the decent thing and resign, after bringing the country to the brink of ruin Pj.

how much more guffe and apologies for the government must we listen to? Brian cowen and his inept government are responsible for the collapse of the irish economy. How are these clowns still in power?

cowan appointed holohan - do they seriously think we'd believe a word out of his mouth?    ***

some,e.g. 5.4 trillion euro (5.4 thousand billion) worth of oil and gas off our west coast that could be properly taxed.

Bob in dublin.

brian Cowen said he takes full responsibility for what happens well let us hope he takes the hit in his own pocket not the pockets of the ordinary people and Carers and the disabled etc. Like he did in last years budget better still call an election and get rid of this awful inept government

catherine Daly cork

***

It is outrageous that Cowen mouths the words that he accepts responsibility and then patently does not do so. He is taking us for fools.
