I believe that the banks have caused the problems, they gave cheap credit, their economists and other economists and accountants foretold this. People took the credit and we're greedy and now are suffering. For example Quinn direct employees.
John Donovan -accountant.
***
In Cavan the person granting planning permission had absolutely no qualifications in this regard + everyone got permission for everything no matter how bad.
***
Would someone Please tell me why Anglo, has to be saved? The money could be used to help ordinary people. What a waste.
Susan.Dublin.
***
What is future of concrete shells in likes of sandyford? Why have developers still looked 4 excessive height in current development plan in dlrcc?
***
Hi Vincent. The other night you spoke of the enormity of the amount of Three Trillion Dollars that the USA has borrowed from the world banks.Did you know, that if you went into a bank on the high street and withdrew 3 trillion dollars in 50 dollar bills, the pile would be 12,000 kilometers high?? TRUE.
Peter Keogh. Kilcullen Kildare

Mick wallace is hardly a "socialist" as he owns a football team {Wexford Youths}, and a vineyard in italy,
david in Wexford

Pat hogan Drumcollogher.

The public has bailed the banks and the govt out... what's the banks and the govt going to do for the average man on the street with no job and a mortgage loan to pay ? I dont hear any plans 2 reduce repayments as the property market devalues.
John in donegal
***
Vincent, the government should supply Viagra free to all Irish men, in order to generate a population bulge to soak up the excess of property in Ireland.
Brian Kearns
***
Remember the greed of the Elm Park/Merrion Gates developers - there was a clause in the sale of those apartments that the developers would get a percentage of the profit if the apartment was SUBSEQUENTLY sold!
***
This is old news you're debating about builders. Are you not watching euro news and cnn. Whats happening in greece will happen here and soon. Stop recycling old news and discuss the fall of the european union and our currency.
Bernie.
***
According to the Citizens Information website news section, there are currently just over 150'000 claims for Rent supplement being paid by The State. And just over a third of the premises are occupied by Non- nationals. Quiet remarkable statistic.

Irish people need to wake up and do a greece . All them big builders should be in jail and doing time like any other criminals instead they are living of their money in swiss banks tax free. Donations to goverments and their will be no justice .
Keith Drogheda.

Does frank believe we all came up the liffey in a bubble? Im only a house wife and i could c that it wo all end up in tears.
Bridie.
***
Please make it clear that just as the regulator is most culpable in relation to our financial crisis, the Local Authorities are the bodies that have to take responsibility for the catastrophic planning debacle. The developers would not have paid such prices if they were not confident of being granted permission for the grossly excessive development by Planning Authorities.
V. O'Shea

Vincent are u mad ? Dub better for it? Tallaght destroyed with high rise .ballymun knocked down tallaght built high rise lots empty.

Even i saw the bubble was pricked, sold a fab hse in dub and now live happily on a small farm with a new hse in cavan mortgage free, dont people know when to stop gambling?
-the middle class voted in FIANNA FAIL in spite of well documented evidence from the tribunals-our so-called educated class of critical thinkers did it in return for 30 pieces of silver-now they dont even have the latter as our government claws it all back-and more-

Since this amounted 2 economic terrorism why not go after those who profited from this n get those bilions back We need an ENRON type pursuit to go after our money that was grossly over paid by our zombies

Sooner or later you must face reality and recognise that planners are not business people. Our republic has been reduced to a socialist bureaucracy. Before planning laws were introduced Ireland developed in line with demand.
Noel O'Gara
***
Well now Vinny, why can't the Government........... gain access to all those secret Swiss bank accountslike the US government did some time ago? Or why not gaol all the Seanies till they hand back the loot? Why not indeed? Don't you agree?
***
To use a phrase of yours Vincent, is it not extraordinary..... how selective Frank McDonald and other media commentators are on their analysis of the property market. Given its tenor and hype it could be argued that the Irish Times Property Supplement was as much a factor in property inflation as any other. And what about the revenue enjoyed by the Press from these nasty developers. How much did the Irish Times lose when it bought myhome.ie? Will you put that point to Frank?
Larry Dunne. Bray
***
The emmigrants that have'no problemn' using Dublin-bus,are using 4 FREE.That's a fact-so I dont accept Franks comment. He's out of touch.
Terry Campbell.
***
Like the financial regulator, the planners getting paid and a pension FOR BEING ASLEEP!! Unless leaders lead then nothing will change. Why blame property developers, they took all the risks. Banks were just greedy and followed a smaller bank into the brink! Jesus has anyone been to stepaside!

Hi Vincent,Ironically I am a private sector PAYE professional sitting here watching while sorting through my jars of coins to try to see if I can stretch enough to give my kids a modest summer holiday this year. We never did get to count our 40 million let alone squander it! Thanks to the banks and developers for killing the goose on our behalf.

Mick wallace one of the few developers with a concience. I wish him well. He opposed the building of tiny 1 bed apts which were just boxes. He was also great with wexford youth fc.
