Ger Gilroy has done an amazing job in telling Irish people the truth of what is going on in Haiti. His words are compelling and a real call to action. In the course of his job he must have seen incredible horrors but he should be proud that he has demonstrated how powerful good journalism and reporting can be.

The Americans couldn't look after there own in New Orleans, what hope have these poor people have with them?

***

Guido Bertolaso who led L'aquila quake in italy condemned Haiti relief as a vanity parade. He said lots of people go there anxious to show their country is big and powerful. He said the Americans don't have a rapport with international organisations and aid groups.

Why do we need so many agencies in ireland ?

I have just tuned in. Ger is obviously not used to developing countries and the issues concerned. Sadly he also has a sensationalist tendency . Get a bit of maturity and context.

If the Gardai were working in America on the police force they would all be sacked, high pay low productivity.

All those promotions in top ranking Garda.. Appears a sweetener to keep them happy and not strike. God this country and gov. Just something else.. What about all those who are waiting to become recruits in Garda force? And still waiting for embargo to be lifted .. Keep big boys in force happy, name of the game. Same ould! Story.

US are there because of proximity to Cuba. 1500 Cuban doctors in Haiti vs 5000 US troops.

if imperialist powers like US and france had not continued to undermine Haitian sovereignty to further their own capitalist ends, the earthquake would have had same effect as if it happened in california. kieran mcnulty, tralee socialist workers party.
