Topic: The EU's proposal to increase co-ordination of national budgets

Panellists: Leo Varadkar (Fine Gael), Joan Burton (Labour) and Will Hutton (EU expert and ex-editor of the Observer)

Was this budget proposal in the 700 page Lisbon Treaty that we voted on? Or did anyone bother to read it?

these were the people who were mad for lisbon telin us our souvereigty was put at risk, we should give back lreland to the uk and tell them were sorry.

***

What will be next? Will the EU control education, health and social policy. Its a very dangerous development.

***

By extension, these proposed EU regulations also mean that the bank guarantee implemented by Lenihan at the outset of the crisis would never have been permitted by Europe.

Paul Whelan.

enda kenny speaking up for IRISH sovereignty is bizare and hypocrisy of the weirdest order. Europe is eroding sovereignty from the people. Enda story.

So the Germans and the French will get first approval of our new budgets. Aren't you delighted you listened to the hypocrits in FF, FG and Labour who told us the Lisbon Treaty would never diminish our fiscal autonomy!

The european union is the best to look over our budget.look at the mess we have made of this in the past.

I have always really liked Will Hutton. A good human being and a real gentleman. And we should have nationalised the banks.

Please read page 4 Sunday Indo article heading No crisis for Cowen as he keeps the economic big wigs waiting. Its same same old story we ie our Government getting their orders from the men mentionf I dont see a sovereign Irish Government able to unleash any good changes when these fat cats are slowly strangling us. it's a big gambling arena for them. what about fraudulent banks n not a mention of efficiencies in the boardrooms? mr sutherland shud shut up at last. what has he really done for our country to help us prosper in real terms? We wouldnt b in this position only for greedy bank trading. let the truth out Our Lady of Knock n Fatima pray for Ireland its a sad state because of useless immoral greedy thieves. shame on them

wot can we expect from a govt whose special rapporteur on children is a lawyer, albeit an expert in family law.

***

FACT: The Lisbon Treaty clearly states how the Euro Parliament will deal with the monetary affairs of countries within the Euro zone.

FACT: Enda Kenny led a vigorous FG campaign for a "yes" vote for the ratification in this country of said treaty.

Why then did he today sound dis-mayed at the prospect of Ireland losing it's sovereignty to the Euro parliament with regards our monetary affairs. Did he not read the treaty, and if not why did he ask the electorate to vote on a treaty he clearly had not studied. The ratification of the treaty effectively handed the governance of this country to the Euro parliament and that too is a FACT!!
