Topic: The volcano in Iceland and travel chaos

Panellists: Evan Cullen (Pilot), Gerry Fleming (Met Eireann), Quentin Crowley (UCD Geology Dept), Nicola Cooke (SBP) and John McLoughlin (National Tree Council).

Great idea to modify aircraft to fly through volcanic ash, who knows where it could lead, never know, could modify them to fly through mountains also. Get real lads.

I was in Pittsburgh during 9/11. To aid a rapid return to normal, airlines accepted each others passengers tickets, why not in Europe.

***

Here we go again - calling for 'light touch' regulation. If a plane gets into trouble, who will we blame?

John, Dublin.

***

Surely the pilot in command of the airplanes should be be given the full information available on the volcano rather than politicians making decisions...why are pilots being excluded?

***

Vincent, you should have someone like happy Gilmore or Kenny or Bruton on, they would be able to tie it all in and show how the government is the cause of it all. Can you imagine the sheer entertainment value of Joan Burton's analyses.

Larry Butler

***

It’s clear commercial pressure & greed has overruled common sense, I will not allow my family to fly for several months till the whole thing "blows over".

Bernard, Dublin

***

New ferry service proposed from Cork to North Spain. Let’s hope this will start soon. It would provide another option for travel to Europe.

Cherry Prendergast

I really wish the same caution was shown by the financial regulator and prevented the economic tsunami that occurred here. Safety first. No lifeboat bail outs required.

Pat, Cork

***

Ger Fleming - a REAL professional!

Dave, Clondalkin

***

Vincent I'd like to ask these people who are calling for planes in the air, will they take personal responsibility if one comes down and therefore be prosecuted criminally?

Paul, Cavan

***

Vincent you have a very depressing bunch on your panel tonight. Could they even give a smile when you introduced them?

***

If they let the planes fly and something happens people will b giving out. They can’t win.

***

We don’t need an ash cloud, we need a cash cloud.

Jim, Donegal

***

I wonder what does the Green Party think of all this volcanic pollution? It just goes to show neither John Gormley or anyone else has any control over those things.

***

The voice of reason Gerard Fleming....take no chances you idiot pilot! A little (very little) knowledge is a dangerous thing! Science guy also impressive - facts no fantasy - no trying to predict the future.

***

Typical Irish situation Vincent, now that we have our passports and have left we can’t bloody well get back to this country.

Pat Egan, Castlebar

***

Why with modern technology could flight paths not have been re routed around the ash?

***

In Japan the people have picnics in graveyards when the cherry blossom is in bloom. I know this as I was there visiting my daughter.

***

Vincent what a refreshing change to hear you talking about cherry blossom trees on your programme, it makes a pleasant change to be going to bed relaxed.

Richard, Blackrock, Dublin

***

Why are you talking about trees? This is supposed to be news and current affairs! This fluff should be left for Ireland AM and the likes. Wrap it up please and get back to doing what you do best, i.e., NEWS, there is enough of it not to have to fill with this tree rubbish.
