Topic: Tabloids - are they over the top or do they give us what we want?

Panelists: Paddy Clancy (ex-Editor, the Sun), Niamh Horan (Sunday Independent) and Niall Kiely (Journalist and PR Advisor)

How dare these people worry about Murphy's privacy? Surely rape is the ultimate invasion of privacy?

***

would larry murphy have sought help if he had not been given attention by the red tops ?

***

why is the stand in for Vincent being so rude and sharp toward the only girl on panel? I'm 21 and a man so it,s not a female women's rights thing..bring back vincent Smyth is crap

***

As a woman I emphatically agree with your panelist niall. Niamh Horan is one of the reasons I no longer buy the sun Indo.

Margaret, waterford

***

He needs help. I am a victim of a crime, and was put out of my home the system needs 2 change.

***

Niamh Horan has some neck criticising Tabloids, she's not clever enough to work for one !

***

monosylabic"absolutely" Niamh Horan reflects the dumb blonde celeb trash we must endure today she can't string 2 words together, sans any sense of humour. Awful,

C O'Rourke

***

Niamh Horan located the Taoiseach in Galway on holidays where he spent years on summer holidays . What a scoop . What a moron .

***

What is the point in txting if there is no ans.?

***

Your female panellist is unbelieveable, thinks she knows what is best for the public. Who needs to know where the taoiseach spends his holidays?

***

murphy is just trying to fool the people he should get what he deserves

john

***

How would a bimbo like that girl understand your question Sam?

***

Every news station in ireland since monday reported that Larry Murphy was being released on Friday Morning at 10 oclock. nothing else to report. Silly season journalism.

Sean, Clare

***

A bit incestuous but reasonably entertaining

Jack, Waterford

***

Tabloid journalists are people who can't get a job with a real newspaper. They make up lies to make a better story, or will even make up a whole story.

***

Is the lady from the sunday indo trying to set the world record for using the word 'absolutely' in under half an hour?

***

Larry Murphy doesn't have the same rights as other people to privacy, as he gave up that right when he ruined that womens life. Of course people are afarid that he is out he should be locked up for life, yes some of the reporting I feel was a bit intrusive not for him but for the links to cold cases.

Lisa

***

I know his victim and how this has affected her life. I think its a discrace he was allowed out early with no treatment. God help Ireland!

***

Did the prison warders treat larry murphy humanly

***

Sunday Indo a disgrace ovr Liam Lalor story. Also, media should pursue drug dealers in the same way they pursued larry murphy except they're afraid of drug dealers.

Fergal

***

Can the tabloid journalists tell us the source of 'what the public wants'? Its an excuse too often used to justify their decisions.

Willie Dawson, Oughterard, Galway.

***

The media have gone too far re Larry Hynes, they are like a pack of wolves after a hound dog!

Kevin, Galway

***

Typical woman. Everyone is entitled to the same privacy, he served his time. Everyone has to be measured to the same scale regarding privacy.

***

Please tell that girl to stop using 'absolutley'.

David, Ballina

***

Is it all about money. We know about freedom of press. What about responsibility and ethics.

***

Have we not got too many journalists here with such a small population. It is like the public service. Too many cooks.

Joe Doherty, Donegal

***

That girl from the tabloid is on an ego trip. Nobody wants the papers to do the police's work because all they want is publicity not justice

John, Castlebar

***

It is quite tragic and sad that broadsheets and tabloids are not investigative but reflect moronic consumer celebritism. GOD SAVE US FROM IDIOTIC EDITORS.

Alan Bluebell, Dublin 12

***

Ms Horan is a prime example of the new breed of Irish journalism, citing her proudest achievement as tracking down our Taoiseach in a caravan in Galway.

***

Come back Vincent, please.

***

Would Niamh Horan like to be hunted down when she is on holidays. There is nothing that urgent that can't wait . Think of the people of Niger tonight.

Niamh.

***

What a poor example of a lifetime scoop... A modest man in a mobile home. !!!

J

***

What a bunch of smug nobodys. Has anyone in Niamh's family ever done anything illegal worth reporting on? I wonder?

***

Would Niamh like her holidays interupted by a snoop with a puppy dog face.

***

Who is that twit with the earth shattering news about the taoiseach and a caravan. It seems that to use the phrase public interest is a licence to print anything. Ann

***

Is clancy proud to work for such an anti Irish rag? What does he make of the anti irish sentiment in the english version of the Sun?

***

Its a pity the reporters of the irish sunday mirror who wrote the gutter remarks about our hard working brave firefighters in dublin learn about the guys in the job before you tell lies article last Sunday.

***

I think last weeks scaremongering and hysterical reporting on Larry Murphy by tabloid newspapers was apalling.

Joan, Co Wicklow

***

I want to know why the media in this country, the print media and RTE,TV3, and all the other tv stations put up with the arrogance of government ministers and elected members of the dail not answering the questions they are asked its really a bit of a circus, also not coming on the media programs unless they are told what they are to be asked so they can prepare their lies in advance, these two things are a complete failure of our media

***

Why is it acceptable to fabricate stories make bogus calls. Shameful coverage of larry murphy's release. Endangering life. Disrespect for victim. Fuelling fear. Do what the boss told me very like the Nazis. It's not journalism

***

Dear Sam, Is this navel gazing or what? Can you tell us what was your greatest story. Bob in Dublin

***

ASK THEM TO FIGHT FOR RURAL HOSPITALS. WE WILL SHORTLY HAVE NO LOCAL HOSPITAL TAKE THE CHALLENGE, TAKE ON HSE.

***

Tabloids are rubbish Im moving channels

Denis

***

I would never use tabloid as as bedding for my dogs, in case they might catch something. Tabloids are an insult and serve no worthwhile purpose. Gutter journalists

***

Who does that nasty female think she is that she can invade someone's privacy ? She looks "thick".

PM

***

Tabloids attempt to determine what is in the public interest not reflect it. They're only interested in profit.

Kieran Mcnulty, Tralee.

***

Why aren't the Government & HSE locked up for the States NEGLECT of the kids who died in State Care? Starting with BERTIE & BIFFO. Where is those kids justice?

***

The Sun not sold in Liverpool due to lies and defamation of Hillsborough deceased. we dont want it here either. The Devils paper

***

Is paddy ashamed of the suns coverage of Hillsborough

***

I have text this question many times and I havent got an answer. Could you please tell me who exactly are the international investors from whom Ireland, and other nations, borrow money? Who are the bond buyers?

Brendan Marsh

***

The toffs who dare to look down their noses at the tabloids ought to remember the Red Tops influence on people and their decisions...just ask Neil Kinnock. I rest my case.

A.P.
