Vincent, Thank you for pointing out to Nell the offence caused to Christians by her remark about the cross.

Two letters were sent in 2001 to ALL catholic bishops by Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Ratzinger instructing them to deal with clerical child sex abuse cases "in house" and to keep any such investigations secret on pain of excommunication. All Catholic bishops knew that clerical sex abuse took place and took out insurance against potential claims. They blindly obeyed their leadership's orders of secrecy which makes them all accomplices in crime. The bishop of Cloher has confirmed that the Vatican's order or "code" obliged him to secrecy. Ratzinger has long known all about the abuse cases in Ireland and condoned senior clerics like Cardinal Brady and the bishops of Cloyne and Lismore not informing police about such cases. Ratzinger himself has been reportedly linked to cover-ups in Germany and America and calls have come from Sinead O'Connor and others for the Pope to be investigated. He should open all relevant files to official scrutiny.

Mary in Limerick.

I always enjoyed Nell McCafferty-usually a good addition 2any debate, but I'm afraid she’s losing it, going by her "off the wall" 'contribution' 2tonight's programme. Hope it’s not 2do with being 65,as I’m the same age!

If Brian Lenihan wants to compare mortgage rates he should use rates within the euro zone and not British rates.
Billy.

Did u know that B.O.I are backing mortgages through the UK post office. Where are they getting the money from? According 2days business news airtel.

I will be defecting from the catholic church in the next few weeks. I can't wait to cease being formally recognised as one of its members.
Shane O'Neill, Tallaght.

Nell is without a doubt the most interesting guest you have invited on your show, well done.

The Green ministers are signing contracts with unsustainable energy companies to destroy vast tracts of the west of Ireland with high voltage power lines, turbines, mines, gas pipes, hydrogen plants and sea dams. Green me arse as Joyce would say.
Pat, Donegal.
***
It’s time for the green party to get out of government before they break the ordinary people. They'll have their pension but I won't because I can't afford one. Like all the politicians, Deirdre De Bruin was thinking of lining her pocket even more. We have enough of the greens. Mary, Galway.

Well done Vincent. Nell makes sweeping statements. Seems to have a chip on her shoulder about many things. Have no time for her since she attacked Archbishop Martin. She is foul mouthed.
***
Fair play to that guy on the panel for calling a religious spade a spade...unlike the clergy and Nell, who call it something different when they trip over it! Nick. Galway. Ps. Nell get over yourself, women got the vote!
***
Tell that man to leave Nell alone She's the only one making sense on the panel tonight The so called financial experts are the ones who made a bags of the banking system I'd rather take some financial advice from Nell who has a bit of cop on She should be nominated to Seanad to take over Deirdre's old job.
Killian Brennan.
***
Nel Mc Cafferty -Why is this coarse, uninformed and inarticulate smart ass on panel? embarrassing for all...especially her!
***
The greens are going to be eaten in the next election because they have kept Fianna Fail in power when the nation wants them out. The greens have also given plenty of jobs to their friends, which flies in the face of all they say.
***
Vincent I think Deirdre and Nell should start their own party, seriously I would vote 4 them. Two honest and strong people, no bullshit- what we need and not bad looking either...
Joe, Limerick.

The pope should really explain to the survivors his reason for using the word PETTY. It’s one insult after another. Also on a documentary aired on RTE last night there was no mention of sex abuse. Those two words seem alien to them ... Just plain propaganda to show the Irish all is well in Vatican City. God, it’s hot in hell.
Christy, Thurles.
***
Nell is refreshing and a gorgeous human being. Deirdre De Burcha seems to have experienced a valuable lesson and I would vote for her.
