Topic: Corporate ethics

Panellists: Newspaper editor turned barrister Ted Harding, Sunday Times Business Editor Brian Carey, and Thomas Molloy of the Irish Independent

How many Lawyers are ethical? I wonder..

***

Can all shareholders get to gether and sue the banks and accountants for mismanagement of their money?

John Kiernan

***

The key question is what was the basis for the legal advice which said it was ok to move the money around to avoid its considerarion in the audit. If the legal people are held to brook the advice they give will be more considered and hence avoid the issue of providing the cloak of protection if you have sought legal advice even if it is rubbish advice. Searche le rat.

A. Byrne, Lucan

***

Surely if somebody got such crucial advice from their lawyers - they got it in writing?

Brian Hopkins, Dublin

***

If you spend your time knocking the banks what about your sponsor? I dont hear you knocking them.

Brian

***

What employee would have asked Fitzpatrick, or any other dictator-boss, THE question?

Eamonn, Terenure

***

Don't these judgements encourage more to do these criminal acts. Also the auditors could easily spot simple window dressing if they wanted to.

Owen

***

The weight of the law only falls on the poor in this god forsaken country

Thomas, Enniscorthy

***

If they didn't jail certain members from government. They will hardly jail bankers, solictors etc. And you would be jailed for not having your taxes paid.

Ann G

***

It is a very important aspect of the Lillis murder trial that there was an affair going on.

Siobhan

***

The Lillis case. Should be no reporting, blackout in all papers. That would give fair trial for all murder cases. Trial by press is a charade, also bound to influence jurors.

Pat, Donegal

***

Sorry Vin, what I meant "by refusing them a seat" was a suggestion they "stand up (no seat) on your programme" to show how petulant, childish their present policy is.

***

Is it the case Dunne's Stores charged customers for the plastic bag and are not passing it on to revenue? Levy on bags are just another stealth tax.

Tom

***

Dunnes Stores are well known for not paying their suppliers and contractors on time never mind plastic bag levies!

***

Meters will make people respect water. Some people have no regard for water use.

***

Sham marriages are a fact. Strange how large no of Pakistanis only marry eastern Europeans. Too much of a coincidence. Also large number are young widowers? Of course they are a sham.

Margaret

***

Maybe the was paid levy was paid in brown envelopes ?

***

Those with power, never hav comon sense+buly the rest of us

***

So none of the other Panellists apart from the one with the vested interest in the subject has an opinion on the Bogus marriages!

***

We need to cop on here. Ireland didn't colonise India or anywhere so why let people in who want to live on welfare? We will be swamped with immigrants.
