Topic: Corrib gas pipeline

Panellists: Fintan O'Toole (Irish Times), Fergus Finlay (Barnardos), John Monaghan (community activist)

Fintan might not be so sympathetic to the Gardai if he saw them in action breaking the teeth of decent men and women, and humiliating them with taunts jeers and assaults

The 420bn figure is not for the Corrib field, it is for the other fields off the West coast and is based on the published estimates of the Dept of Community, Environment and Natural Resources

Thank You Vincent for giving the other side of the arguement on Corrib. Good to hear someone from the community

Even the smallest bit of research into the activities of shell oil will show how immoral and shady this company is for those who have any real interest in the confrontation. Unfortunately too many of the media in this country are ooly too willing to label any kind of popular action in defence of their rights as citizens of Ireland, as troublemakers and terrorists.

Sounds like Shell were passing brown envelops around the Dail to Bertie and his buddies. Ten deaths is very high and really needs to be investigated
***
Vincent when is this goverment going to grow a pair and put the people of Ireland before big business who massage their egos im not ashamed to be Irish because i no longer feel Irish and thats because the goverment has made being Irish a dirty word
***
Its incredible that our natural resource can be given away by a criminal, Burke, and a perjurer, Ahern. Take it back, look at shells record around the world, disgraceful .well done shell to sea.

I do not see that Shell share price reflects the huge value that Fintan O!Toole suggests which dropped 50% during the programme. Nothing mentioned about the costs.

I'm from the parish and am not opposed to the gas coming ashore, but the proposed refinery is located 9km inland in the heart of the community. Shell should accept the compromise offered by the local people.

How the Minister for health and the Minister for Children are remaining in their job's beggers belief. Does no one in Ireland care about Children in care.

Dick Spring once stated that the sale of the Corrib field was an act of economic treason, Dick Spring is certainly not a militant.

John Monaghan is wrong, wrong, wrong. The vast majority of the people are in favour of the project.

When is the Government going to accept responsibility for giving away the Irish peoples natural resources & what are they going to do about reclaiming this national right?
***************
What exactly did our crack team of negotiators secure for the state in return?

Corrib is designed to create infrastructure for plunder of oil/gas reserves off west coast controlled by Shell through THEIR pipeline. Ireland has no state equity, no royalties and no special taxes anyway because Burke and Bertie gave it away. We have ceded control and along wth it the ability to wisely manage and benefit from what once belonged to us.

Vincent, does the fact your questioning Fintan fairly objectively might mean he will evict you from the left wing moaners society!

Child Protection in Ireland does not exist. Whatever is being said by Minister Andrews and his goons in the HSE do not reflect what is really going on in social services in this country. Its one big cover up just ask the people that really know who are the social workers but of course we are all to blame for this eventhough we have no voice. How conveinient is that.

Gas, pylons, wind turbines, hydro electric schemes. Where are the people supposed to go? This amounts to a clearance of vast tracts from cork to donegal all for profiteers backed by foreign companies with poor records in africa, south america and the US. Its appaling and Minister Ryan is responsible for sanctioning these schemes.

This is our get out clause from the recession our answer to the health service problems and the Government are giving it away for nothing, I can sense a tribunal about this in the future its just typical Internationally we are a laughing stock

The Shannon. L.N.G. Project will put anyone within 3 miles in danger if an accident occurs - affecting 17,000 people on the estuary - but there has as yet been no marine lng risk assessment as the hsa's remit stops at the shoreline. As with Corrib, allowing the developer do its own risk assessments instead of the state doing the assessments and then charging the developer for it means we will never have objective analysis. He who pays the fiddler calls the tune.

Vincent, i'm a little surprised that u are not highlighting the latest Fianna Fail Death Wish i.e. Only giving 4 years notice to people that the pension lead in has changed. A further shock in the grey vote area. Causing distress. High light it please.
