To quote from the press release: "Deep in the cellars of the O'Brien Press is a safe that contained stories too horrible to be read. But somebody has broken into the safe and the stories have been released." The Evil Hairdo is one of these stories and it certainly lives up to expectations .

Melanie's favourite girl band is 'Witchcraft' and the one thing Melanie wants above anything else is to copy their hairstyle. When a new hairdressing salon, also called 'Witchcraft', offers a special price on the hairstyle, Melanie decides she's got to have it. And gets it she does, with money borrowed from her little brother. But the hairstyle develops a life of its own and propels Melanie, her family and her bestfriend Kelly into a series of blood-chilling situations. The illustrations, also by the writer will satisfy the most enthusiastic lovers of the weird.

There are also details in the back of the book of a 'Creepy Code Competition' with "a fantastically revolting prize" such as a workshop for four with the author, a hamper of art supplies or a chance to adopt a slimy Royal Python at Dublin Zoo. Competition closes 30 November.
