Remove Death Threat say Republican Sinn Fein

The decision by the Provisional leadership to sit on Police Boards in the Six Counties while Loyalists issue death threats to republicans and nationalists has been condemned by a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein.

Joe Lynch from Ballinacurra Weston in Limerick, the vice- chairman of the Munster RSF Executive said today that the Loyalist assassination threats against republicans who oppose the Stormont Agreement should be lifted.

Climate Strategy is tinkering when we need transformation

Friends of the Earth has described the government's new climate change strategy, as lacking credibility and "tinkering when what we need is transformation". According to the government's own figures, even if all the policies and plans announced today are implemented successfully by 2012, Ireland's climate pollution will only drop from 25 per cent above 1990 levels to 22 per cent above 1990 levels.

Politicians' salaries and days off - no comparison with the nurses

It is disgusting to see highly paid politicians, pundits and HSE PR spinners condemning hard-working, underpaid nurses. A typical example was on RTE's Questions & Answers on 2 April, where all six pontificators [panel + presenter] were probably paid up to ten times more than the nurses they criticised.

Sharing Power with DUP a Shameful Act

The shameful decision of the Provisional leadership of Adams and McGuinness to agree to administer British rule with the DUP on the date of the Loughgall murders must be condemned.

Recognition of Palestinian Government

Yet again Palestinian attempts at forming a cohesive government comprised of the two main elected groups in the region are being vetoed by the US and Israeli administrations. Hamas and Fatah are trying to make a concerted effort to reduce internal tensions in the area before engaging in dialogue with Israel. The prerequisite of recognition of Israel is again seen as a stumbling block. Which Israel would this be though?

British Navy in Iran

The British Government have been protesting internationally recently about the detention of fifteen of their Navy personnel by the Iranian Authorities. They insist that there is no way that British Personnel could have strayed into Iranian territory by mistake. They have produced (Several days after the fact) maps, diagrams and pictures to support their claims. Oh how little things have changed.

Concern for Irish Prisioner

The continued refusal of the Irish Government to allow Irish prisoner Noel Maguire a native of Co-Fermanagh to be repatriated from an English prison to serve the rest of his time in an Irish prison is is totally unacceptable and must be reconsidered purely on humanitarian grounds.

Clean energy resource overlooked

I am concerned that some misconceptions may be leading the government to overlook a source of clean energy with great potential for the UK and the rest of Europe. I refer to 'concentrating solar power' (CSP), the simple but effective technique of using mirrors to concentrate sunlight to create heat and then using the heat to raise steam to drive turbines and generators, just like a conventional power station. Solar heat may be stored in melted salts so that electricity generation may continue through the night and on cloudy days.

Denmark or Zimbabwe

It is good to see the media reporting robustly on the situation in Zimbabwe. However, nearer to home, in Denmark, the follow-up to a big story has been lost. I refer to the attack on a youth hostel in Denmark by the police in which 640 persons were arrested. Later the authorities demolished the youth building.
