Covert online operations
The CIA web site like the organisation itself gives little information away to the general public. There are however some interesting facts and figures available here.
The site allows you to glean information on the history of the organisation and outlines in no uncertain terms just exactly what they do: “We are the nation's first line of defence. We accomplish what others cannot accomplish and go where others cannot go”.
Maps and documents allow you to read up on various locations the organisation has vested interests in, while the using headquarter's virtual tour you can look at some of the plaques and memorials dedicated to former employees.
Some facts that are released on the site include figures of annual budgets and a copy of the ‘Strategic Event Plan', which sets out the goals the organisation's five-year-plan.
The site neither mentions nor discusses the word torture but it does have posted a copy of a letter published in the New York Times that supports methods of interrogation that “help protect our security”. On a friendlier note when discussing its methods for international diplomacy they say: “The CIA also works with friendly foreign governments and shares pertinent information with them.”
Some interesting reports can be found here including a report on the CIA's accountability for 9/11. For anyone getting bored with the drudge of working nine to five there is also a career vacancy lists on the site.
