Fine Gaél poll numbers up - no cause for celebration!

Before anyone starts jumping for joy with the news that Fine Gaél's poll ratings are up at the expense of Fianna Fáil, even if they do get into power, it'll be a case of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.  Nothing will really change; you might have a change of style, but not substance.

The Fine Gaél led coalition will still follow the same right wing policies that the current Fianna Fáil/Progressive Democrats Governments does, making them 1 of the most right wing Governments in Europe.  Indeed in some areas Fine Gaél are more right wing than Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats if that can be possible.  For example Fine Gaél wants to introduce mandatory drug testing for school kids.  Even Michael McDowell is not proposing that.  That's like something what Blair or Bush would do.  They're already trying out many of these failed, knee jerk, reactionary measures in England and the US.  Many would argue that England and the US are heading towards a totalitarian, police state.

The same will happen here in Ireland unless we take stock of who were voting for.  Instead of voting for the reactionary, right wing parties Fianna Fáil, Fine Gaél and the Progressive Democrats vote for the Independents and small parties such as the Socialist Party, the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), the Workers' Party (WP), the People Before Profit Alliance (PBPA), Sinn Féin, the Green Party, and Independents such as Finian McGrath TD, Councillor Joan Collins, Tony Gregory TD and Séamus Healy TD.  Even the Labour Party, although they're far from perfect are a far better option than Fianna Fáil, Fine Gaél and the Progressive Democrats, provided they're not allowed to go into coalition with any of those 3 right wing parties.

Instead they should, at the very least, form a common voting bloc in the Dáil with the parties and Independents listed above.  Then we might see a more fair and just society.
