Doubts over J Day 2006

J Day, which was to take place as part of the Global Marijuana March to support the legalisation of Marijuana on May 6 in Marley Park, has been "officially cancelled", according to a message on its website.

It says, "'Officially' J-day Ireland has been cancelled and as such anyone there to gather for J-day could be hassled by the gardaí or park rangers."

The reasons for the cancellation were not given. However, an unofficial gathering is planned, although it is not clear if this will have anything to do with support for the legalisation of marijuana.

J Day has occurred in Dublin over the past few years and has seen varying numbers turn up in support.

This year, the plan was to gather in Marley Park in south Dublin at 2pm, where acoustic music, comedians, jugglers and fire breathers were to perform, and speeches were to be given. The organisers had hoped that Luke 'Ming' Flanagan, a councillor from Co Roscommon who supports the legalisation of cannabis, would attend.
