Don't sell Tallaght short

As a Lady of mature years ( some would say a Senior Citizen) who lives close to the Village, I attended the recent well attended Public Meeting in the Priory. The presentation was excellent and the issues raised were relevant and informative. A number of the Public Representatives encouraged us to view the recently passed "Local Area Plan". One of the organisers at the end of the meeting encouraged the audience to visit the TRCU website.....
After finally coming to grips with my PC, I accessed both and was pleasently suprised with the details in the " Local Area Plan" with specific reference to building heights, apartment sizes, provision of playgrounds, provision of washing & drying facilities and owner occupancy. It is a statutory document and is an attempt to control and regulate what appeared to be unchecked development in the Tallaght Village area.

After being encouraged to view the TRCU website and the hundreds of postings on it, I was frankly  alarmed and shocked by the image of Tallaght presented on the TRCU.

There were references to " Tallymun", ghettos & slums.

As someone who has lived in Tallaght for over fifty years it is not the Tallaght that I know.

I remember when three of my children were in University in the eighties and people asked them where they lived. They proudly said Tallaght, much to the suprise of the questioners.Tallaght's image was very bad then but with the support of residents in Tallaght, the area has changed and improved.

People who sell Tallaght short and refer to "Tallymun", ghettos and slums do not speak for me and do not represent the Tallaght I know and love.

Tallaght is now a strong, vibrant TOWN with numerous facilities that other urban areas could only wish for.

Some of the postings on the TRCU website appear to derive from a "chip on the shoulder attitude".

Please do not sell Tallaght short. I would encourage all viewers to this blog to visit the TRCU website and view the blogs (primarily negative, emotional and frenquently hysterical).

Tallaght is a strong, vibrant community with a proud past and a great future.

Tallaght Abú.
