Tribulations at the Tribune

The Sunday Tribune has lost well over £lm. since it started publiication in November 1980 and it needs a further £lm. at least to continue in existence from next September onnwards. But its publisher, Hugh McLauughlin is confident not alone that he can raise sufficient cash for the Sunnday paper but that he can raise a few, million more for a daily paper to begin publication in the autumn.

*********
The organisation now known as The Workers' Party has in previous periods been known variously as Sinn Fein, Official Sinn Fein, Sinn Fein (Gardiner Place) and Sinn Fein The Workers' Party. In these articles we have used the name most appropriate to the period being described.

Wigmore: John Feeney, the media and Dail Eireann, the Malvinas crisis

MEDIA COVER of Dail Eireann is likely to be suspended if a row between the superintendent of the House and the Press Gallery isn't settled soon. Superintendent Eamon O'Donoghue doesn't believe in making life too easy for reporters and is refusing to sign the 1982 membership cards for the Gallery without a guarantee that only 50 journalists will in future be allowed in for big occasions like budget day. Gallery membership is three times that and if O'Donoghue - a brother-in-law of Mark Killilea - doesn't back down the press people are almost certain to "black" the Dail .

Free Nicky Kelly

Nicky Kelly, of Arklow, Co. Wicklow, is currently serving a 12-year jail sentence in Portlaoise prison for an offence he did not commit, the Sallins mail train robbbery in March 1976. He is likely to go on hunger strike in prison within the next few weeks in protest against his conviction and, given his current mental state, he is very likely to at least do himself very considerable damage, if not actually starve himself to death.

Thuggery: The Ugly face of the SFWP

The image which SFWP presents to voters in the South as the party of "peace, justice and class politics" and as "the party you can trust" is very different to reality of the Official IRA which has been responsible for some of the most horrific atrocities in Northern Ireland in the past deecade. We list elsewhere the horrors for which the oganisation was responsible in 1972. Below we list the most salient examples of thuggery for which the Official IRA have been responsible.

Bank Levies - SFWP Style

Sinn Fein, the Workers Party, strenuously denies that any of its finance comes from robberies. In spite of these denials however we have identified the following robberies as having been carried out by members of the Official IRA since 1975.
